Video

DJI has been at the forefront of image quality for drones of all sizes and this new DJI FPV system is no different. You will struggle to find any drone with a similar or better imaging system. The camera has a wide 142 degree view and once you change the settings to 50/100 fps, the view widens to 150 degree view.

The built in HD Digital FPV provides a real-time view of the flight as it happens with very minimal latency. The DJI FPV Goggles V2 are able to receive this HD Video transmission up to 810P at 60 FPS in high-quality mode or 120 FPS in low-latency mode.

Once recording to the SD card, it will boast much higher quality images. 4K/60 FPS video can be recorded up to 120Mbps bitrate. or HD 1080 video can be recorded up to 120FPS. Rocksteady image stabilisation smooths out turbulence and jerky flight movements while distortion correction helps avoid image quality degradation. Video is recorded in H.264 or H.265.

Flight Control

DJI has been known to create some of the easiest drones to fly where they practically fly themselves. This has been replicated in the DJI FPV with "Normal" Mode. This typical GPS-assisted mode that's easy to control and enables smooth flight.

Whilst this setting may be limiting, it allows the easiest control of the drone with a maximum attitude angle of 25 degrees and a maximum flight speed of 15 m/s (~54 km/h). Once mastered, users can switch to "Sport" mode to increase the maximum flight speed to 27 m/s (~97 km/h) and double the ascent and descent rates. Sport mode will be a big step up for many pilots used to flying smaller DJI quadcopters.

For those who are more experienced or want to jump into the deep end right away, "Manual" mode will be the way to go. This disables most flight assists and hands direct control to the operator, just like a freestyle drone would have. This enables amazing manoeuvrability, but also carries considerable risk. This manual mode can be disabled by default and must be enabled through the goggles menu. There is an additional setting that removes the attitude limiter and will unlock the full potential, meaning you can do manoeuvres such as flips and rolls.

In the manual mode, the drone will fly up to speeds of 140 km/h.

During this mode, we suggest disabling the automatic recentering on the controller (screw located at the back) whilst in full manual mode.

Usability

DJI takes usability to the next level and is a top priority. DJI has taken great care to ensure the freestyle-like experience is also seamless and easy to access for all users. Some of the expected usability (and safety) features include lighting, smart return to home, low battery return to home and both forward/downward obstacle avoidance sensors. Furthermore, there are new tricks that have been brought to the table.

Emergency Brake

Freestyle is difficult and intimidating to learn. The controls are very powerful and allow vast freedom of movement however it does open up the pilot to be more prone to crash. Experience is key with freestyle drone flying and with more experience, the likelihood of crashing is significantly less. The risk of a fatal crash is mitigated with the panic button. Once activated, the drone goes into full stabilisation mode to set itself upright and hover in place.

Motion Controller

Instead of the traditional two-stick control, mode 1 or mode 2, you can instead fly the DJI FPV drone with one-handed motion-sensing remote. This is meant to revolutionise the way pilots interact with the drone and promises natural and intuitive connection between drone and operator that makes it easier to learn and control the drone.

Performance

With a 20 minute flight time and speeds up to 140 km/h, the DJI FPV drone is no slouch. The low-pitch 5328 propellers are very efficient but aren't going to provide raw power that many enthusiasts are used to. Carrying nearly 800 grams of weight will make the drone side and slide through corners instead of providing the locked-in feel that dedicated racers look for.

Why should you get the DJI FPV?

The barrier of entry to this hobby is generally high for racing/freestyle drones and don't come with any "safety nets". It also requires a bit of reading to understand control systems, radio frequency usage and the different manufacture standards. This simple product allows you to avoid all of that and enjoy the fun of flying whilst capturing incredible photos/videos in the process.

If you are looking for a drone to get cinematic FPV flying, this is the one to get. The high-quality footage along with the excellent features make this drone the complete package.

What’s the difference between DJI FPV and traditional drones?
Generally speaking, FPV drones differ from traditional drones in two major ways. The first is the immersive flight experience provided by the googles. The second big difference is the flight itself. Compared to most camera drones, FPV drones typically allow for much higher speeds and limitless maneuvering capabilities with no angle limits on any of the axes. Because of this, FPV drones have typically required a much higher level of skill to fly.
What is the difference between DJI FPV and traditional racing drones?
DJI FPV has a built-in imaging system, high-definition, low-latency transmission with a range of up to 10 km, and a battery life of approximately 20 minutes. The integrated, ready-to-fly design means users don’t need to assemble the drone themselves. DJI FPV is also equipped with advanced safety features such as emergency brake hovering, intelligent return to home, and DJI Care Refresh service for added flight protection and greater peace of mind during flight.
Is the DJI FPV Combo worth it?
The DJI FPV Combo comes with everything you need to start flying. It includes the FPV Drone, Goggles V2, Remote Controller 2, DJI FPV Intelligent Flight Battery, DJI FPV Goggles Battery, DJI FPV AC Power Adapter, DJI FPV Propellers, and other related cables and accessories. For anyone interested in diving into the world of FPV flight, it’s the perfect way to do so.
What is the Motion Controller? Is it worth it?
The DJI Motion Controller is a small, hand-held device that revolutionizes the aerial experience. This compact device allows the aircraft to maneuver based on your natural hand motions, delivering an ultra-intuitive experience and allowing even beginners to maneuver like seasoned FPV pilots.
I am a beginner/new pilot. Where can I find tips about using DJI FPV?
DJI FPV comes with a user manual and comprehensive tutorials, which you can get from the Flight Academy in the DJI Fly app. DJI also developed the DJI Virtual Flight app [5], which lets users practice flying virtually before taking off in the real world. All you have to do is connect the DJI FPV Goggles V2 and remote controller to your mobile device with the Virtual Flight app and you’re ready to master FPV flight in a risk-free way.
Does DJI FPV come with accidental damage coverage?
DJI FPV comes with a standard product warranty. If you would like to protect DJI FPV against accidental damage, purchase DJI Care Refresh to get a comprehensive service plan that provides replacement units. DJI Care Refresh 1-Year Plan provides two replacement units for a small additional charge in one year. DJI Care Refresh 2-Year Plan offers you three replacements in two years. Both of them can be purchased while purchasing DJI FPV.
Does DJI FPV support obstacle detection and avoidance?
The DJI FPV aircraft comes with forward and downward vision sensors that can automatically detect objects and decelerate when flying in N mode. However, there is no automatic avoidance function. When obstacles are detected, the aircraft will slow down but will not stop completely unless controlled to do so by the pilot.
Do I need to assemble the DJI FPV drone myself?
No. Like many previous DJI drones, DJI FPV doesn’t require any assembly. Simply open the box, install the propellers and battery, and DJI FPV is ready to fly. However, DJI FPV does have a modular design with easily replaceable parts. Users can replace the top cover, gimbal camera, and landing gear if any of these parts become damaged.
What is the maximum transmission range of DJI FPV?
DJI FPV comes with DJI O3 (OcuSync 3.0), DJI’s best transmission system yet. DJI O3 was adapted to match the unique needs of DJI FPV, and features crystal-clear real-time video transmission at distances of up to 10 km.
