DJI Mini 2 SE vs DJI Mini SE: Which is Best?

The new DJI Mini 2 SE has just landed in Australia! The highly-anticipated follow up to the fan favourite DJI Mini SE, the new Mini 2 SE offers beginner pilots a more immersive piloting experience with greater creative control. Let’s see how it compares to the original DJI Mini SE!

DJI Mini 2 SE vs DJI Mini SE: What’s Different

Better Transmission

DJI Mini 2 SE implements the updated DJI O2 (OcuSync 2.0) image transmission protocol first introduced with the DJI Mavic 2 series. O2 delivers a vastly improved piloting experience compared to the DJI Mini SE with up to 10 KM of video transmission range compared to the original SE’s maximum range of 4 KM.

How is this improvement achieved? OcuSync 2.0 communicates and transmits video between the DJI Mini 2 SE drone and controller via 2.4 and 5.8 GHz radio frequencies. This method of video transmission is far better than the Wi-Fi based method adopted by the original DJI Mini SE and opens up all new avenues

It’s crazy to think that top-of-the-line technology used in DJI’s flagship camera drones is now being used in their most budget-friendly model.

Updated Controller

Video transmission is a two way street. That means that in order to achieve better image transmission when flying, both the drone and controller must be improved. We’ve already covered the new DJI O2 system powerign the Mini 2 SE, now we need to cover the other half of the equation: the remote controller.

The DJI Mini 2 SE makes use of the DJI RC-N1 controller, a remote that will now be familiar with many DJI pilots. Not only is this controller sturdier and more durable than the original DJI Mini SE’s controller, it provides a far more ergonomic piloting experience. The controller also features built-in antennaes that support the far better transmission provided by DJI O2.

RAW Photos

The DJI Mini 2 SE borrows a feature from its pro counterparts by introducing RAW photo capture to the Mini SE product line.

Not only does shooting in RAW deliver more fine details in your images, it also greatly improves your photo editing experience with significantly more colour data to play with. This is perfect for pilots who want to fine tune their photos in an editing software like Lightroom before sharing their creativity with the world.

More Camera Control

This includes small yet meaningful feature upgrades including

  • Added support for digital zoom. DJI Mini 2 SE supports maximum digital zoom of up to 4X, perfect for framing things from far away.
  • Added support for AEB (auto exposure bracketing). AEB successively captures multiple exposures at different light levels to ensure that you always capture a perfect exposure.

Panorama

Panoramic shooting makes its debut on the DJI Mini SE series with the Mini 2 SE now supporting the full suite of panorama shooting modes you know and love on other DJI Mini series drones. These include Sphere, 180°, and Wide-Angle shooting modes.
