New Camera Features for DJI Mavic 3

Get ready for some great news just in time for Christmas; DJI has released the hugely anticipated major firmware update for the new DJI Mavic 3 early, and just in time for the holidays! Join us as we run through all the new and improved features that this firmware update brings, and what it means for you!

Originally expected in early 2022, the new v01.00.0400 firmware update for the DJI Mavic 3 has arrived and can be downloaded and installed today! The update can be downloaded directly through the connected DJI Fly app or via DJI Assistant 2 as per usual. Make sure to update the DJI Fly app on your smartphone or tablet as well in order to access all the new features!

What's new?

The new update for Mavic 3 brings additional Intelligent Flight features to the Mavic 3 including FocusTrack, MasterShots and Timelapse. But that’s not all, this new update also brings RAW only photo support to the Mavic 3, plus a bunch of minor performance updates to improve the overall flight experience of the Mavic 3.

FocusTrack

FocusTrack includes the highly anticipated ActiveTrack 5.0, which improves on the fan-favourite ActiveTrack smart subject tracking technology seen on DJI drones for years. Much like previous iterations, ActiveTrack 5.0 comes with two distinct modes; Trace and Parallel, to either track your subject from a constant angle or from a distance in parallel.

FocusTrack also brings back versatile shooting modes in Spotlight 2.0 and POI 3.0 (Point of Interest 3.0). These two features allow pilots to track subjects via just the camera without drone movement or looping in a circle around a subject.

MasterShots

Making a return after its successful debut on the DJI Air 2S, MasterShots is back and better than ever before, allowing creators to capture highlight reel footage quickly and easily. With MasterShots, you’ll be able to capture an entire reel of classic drone shots with a simple tap, the drone’s intelligent AI handles all the framing and flight, leaving you with a video that’s ready to share!

Timelapse

Timelapse is back! Like before, Timelapse of the Mavic 3 isn’t like the boring time-lapses that are captured on smartphones, but rather with four different shooting modes, you can create a timelapse that is dynamic and attention-grabbing! On Mavic 3, time-lapses can be shot in Free, Circle, Course Lock and Waypoint modes for vastly different results.

As the name suggests, Free mode allows the Mavic 3 to freely take photos to produce a fun timelapse. Circle mode involves the Mavic 3 taking photos whilst circling a subject, much like the POI FocusTrack feature. Course lock locks the orientation of the Mavic 3 for a more traditional result, and finally, waypoint mode allows users to select up to five waypoints for the Mavic 3 to fly between and generate a timelapse video.

RAW Photo Support

Professional photographers rejoice! RAW only photo format has arrived for the Mavic 3! With RAW only support, you can now take data-rich 20MP RAW images that provide immense flexibility for editing and post-processing.

Performance Upgrades and General Improvements

As with any firmware update, the new update for Mavic 3 brings along a slew of subtle performance improvements and issue corrections. These include improved RTH performance, hover stability, obstacle avoidance performance and more! These minor adjustments are intended to improve the overall flight experience of the Mavic 3 for safe and consistent flights.
